We are committed to changing worlds through the power of football, and in 2022, our four new project leads are focusing on using football to make a real difference to girls' lives in remote communities across Uganda and India. We want to ensure 2022 is a year to remember for many girls who have not attended school regularly since March 2020.

Girls are typically held back by their parents from attending school in order to help with the household chores, tend to sick family members or work for long hours in the fields. And, with the added pressures and stresses of the recent lockdowns many of these girls are now suffering from mental health issues; and many have fallen pregnant so large numbers of girls are struggling to return to school – despite many of them being very keen to so as to avoid the grueling work at home.

“Since March 2020 when the Government announced a lockdown, over 27 girls at my school have fallen pregnant.” Andrew, Huracan FC Isikiro, Uganda

How can we help these communities to ensure that more girls return to school in 2022?

We have carefully selected four leaders who we know have a real passion for supporting girls – helping to build their confidence, develop their aspirations for the future and ensure they complete their education. They will each build and train a female Huracan team in their community, giving the girls the motivation to come to school and giving their parents a reason to be proud of them.

“We will be breaking the stereotypes that the girls are supposed to stay home and do domestic work.” Laker, Huracan FC Bwiwula, Uganda

We are asking for your support to help us provide the necessary materials for these girls, giving them a helping hand and as much support as possible to enable them to return to school and train with their Huracan football team.

You can help us in two ways:

1) The fathers of these girls would not dream of buying their daughters football boots or kit so they often come to training ready to play in bare feet, or wearing inappropriate clothing

With your support we can buy boots, shin pads, shirts and shorts for these girls so that they are fully equipped for the training and able to play matches.

2) Many of these girls miss school and football training during their periods as they lack the funds to buy sanitary protection.

With your support we can provide funds for the communities to make reusable sanitary pads, ensuring the girls can attend school and can join the football coaching on a regular basis.

With a small contribution you can help us help these girls -

- £3 will buy a pair of shin pads

- £10 will buy a pair of football boots

- £12 will buy a new shirt and shorts

- £25 will buy a full football kit for one girl (shin pads, boots, shirt & shorts)

- £50 will provide reusable sanitary pads for 25 girls for 6 months

- £100 will provide reusable sanitary pads for 50 girls for 6 months and the necessary training for more girls to be able to make them at home

Our Project Leaders Denise, Laker, Andrew and Tenzin will be hugely grateful for your support and have each set ambitious targets to keep more girls in school this year.
