About us
The Huracan Foundation is a UK registered charity that gives young people the support to change their world, by using football as a catalyst for learning. We run projects both in the UK and overseas that use the power of football to:
- Improve children’s education (both inside and outside of the classroom); and
- Create social change (such as reducing teenage pregnancies, improving opportunities for girls and steering children away from drugs, alcohol, and local gangs).
Our projects are led by teachers from the Teach For All network. We partner with Teach For All because:
- We know their teachers work in communities with great needs; and
- We know that these teachers have been hand-picked and given world-class training.
The Huracan Foundation has seen the clear evidence that football, with its universal appeal, is a really strong tool to help both engage and inspire the children out of the classroom, as well as being a vehicle for teaching them life skills and for giving them the impetus to work harder in the classroom.
We aim to have an impact in three specific areas:
1. Children: we deliver:
- Improvements in school results and school attendance;
- Improvements in social and emotional skills; and
- Improvements in other wellbeing metrics
2. Project Leaders – we support the Project Leaders to develop as leaders during their year of support from The Huracan Foundation
3. Long term & sustainable impact – we ideally look for each project to become financially independent by the end of the year and in a number of cases these projects have gone on to become incredibly successful NGOs in their own right.
